Training and Supervision in Experientially Oriented Psychotherapy and in "Working with the body in psychotherapy"
1. Clinical Supervision
I offer clinical supervision for psychologists and mental health counselors who are interested in developing their skills in and their understanding of experientially oriented psychotherapy. I am qualified to supervise Oregon interns seeking licensing as a Licensed Professional Counselor as well as Oregon psychologist interns.2. Training in Contemporary Reichian Psychotherapy (Orgone Therapy)
This is an in depth three-year training program for psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, and other health professionals who desire to become fully grounded in the theoretical and procedural fundamentals which are used in contemporary Reichian psychotherapy practice. These fundamentals embody an integration of classical Reichian psychotherapy , Gestalt Therapy, and contemporary developments in the fields of attachment and affect theory.
Each year of training consists of four one and a half day weekend sessions (Saturday 9:30AM – 5:30PM minus a 1-hour lunch break, and Sunday 9:00AM – 1PM) and four 2-hour telephone conference call sessions - a total of 52 hours/year. During the first two years the weekend sessions will consist of discussion of assigned readings, clinical case material, and video and audio presentations. In the third year the weekend sessions will include the use of video-taped sessions of trainees’ work as a medium for training and discussion. Throughout the three years the conference call sessions will focus on discussion of readings. All together the three years of study will provide a sufficient integration of thinking, feeling, and action necessary for the fundamentals addressed above to truly take hold.
Course of study:
Year One: Theory behind Reich's character analytic and biophysical approach to psychotherapy, including the incorporation and integration of ideas derived from Gestalt Therapy and affect and attachment theory into the overall scheme of Reich's therapeutic approach.
Year Two: Practice of Contemporary Reichian Psychotherapy (orgone therapy) - the therapeutic technique.
Year Three: Refinement of therapeutic understanding and technique through the study of participants' video-taped therapy sessions.
The current training group began in Fall 2012, with weekend sessions alternately held in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA.
Trainers: Daniel Schiff, PhD and Mitch Singer, MA, LMHC.
